If Louis Vuitton‘s New Wave range has yet to claim a spot on your It list, that probably means that its origin is a tale unfamiliar to you just yet. Tapping on (arguably) two of fashion’s largest plunge pools of inspiration, it boasts firstly, heritage: a multi-coloured design on a house trunk of yore informs the quilted, wavy lines on the New Wave accessories. It riffs off music, the name itself a reference to the genre that bloomed in the late ’70s and throughout the ’80s, christened as prophecy of a range that’ll make noise in the crowded scene of It bags.
First released in three styles in mid-2018 (that’s a tote and two shoulder bags — see above), the range now gets two spin-offs; the bum bag, a style that’s really proving to outlive and evolve from its dadcore and retro-chic driven resurgence, plus a camera bag. The former, as fashion’s street style circuit has well demonstrated last year, can be worn cinched over the waist or slung across the body, while the latter as a crossbody or clutch given its detachable chain. On these adaptations, the design’s original ‘V’ emblem remains, by way of the chevron pattern contrasted against the range’s key wave motif. The multi-coloured Vuitton logo — also emblematic of New Wave accessories— takes a more discreet spot on the camera and bum bags’ zipper pulls. Browse the colourways above.
