The last we witnessed a Marc Jacobs show, there were dancers, choreography and Miley Cyrus on the runway. Then quarantine life set in and the American designer took a hiatus from fashion shows.
Though to be honest, he’s never left our radar: we’re glued on to his fun antics on the Gram and joined him in the virtual communion with Miuccia and Co. after Prada’s Fall/Winter 2021 show.
The good thing is that Jacobs’ detox from staging fashion shows and being in quarantine gave him the opportunity to create some really brilliant and thoughtful propositions for dressing up in a post-vaxed world for the Fall/Winter 2021 presentation that took place last evening (June 29) in New York.
Perhaps the show notes summed it up best: “On the journey back to doing what we love most, in the wake of immeasurable loss, loneliness, fear, anxiety and uncertainty, I am reminded of why creativity is so vital to our existence. To life.”
The colourful clothes had a nod to the sci-fi – an arc taking shape for Fall/Winter and shooting straight into Resort 2022 – with swishy pailletes and futurama-tinged sheaths, skirts and dresses.
Their protective and cocoonish shapes spanned loungewear, streetwear and eveningwear, and was Jacobs’ New Look in a re-emerging world (their dramatic silhouettes amplified many times more against the stone walls of the New York Public Library where the show was held).
Post-show, Jacobs’ took to his social media to repost shoutouts and screenshots from his closest industry peers: Jonathan Anderson, Julie de Libran and Kim Jones posting virtual hearts and applauded his return.
It was a well-deserve moment because Marc is back all right.
