Miu Miu may be late to the sneakers collaboration game, but its debut foray into the tie-up game with New Balance has fans and sneakerheads alike in a tizzy (pre-orders are reportedly almost sold out before they hit shelves on February 1).
Much of the appeal lies in how the co-signed 574 model the collaboration is centred on is a cherished classic with a proven track record of collaboration success. Introduced in 1988 – right on the cusp of the ’90s revolution which is gaining momentum right now – the piece has been reimagined plenty of times by the likes Alpha Industries and Stray Rats.
Stylist Lotta Volkova and photographer Tyrone Lebon – two new favourite collaborators of Miuccia Prada – were behind the campaign and lookbook images for the Miu Miu x New Balance project.
But Miu Miu’s version is the most high-fashion rendition yet. Ironically, Miuccia Prada has given it an undecidedly anti-fashion spin: in denim with frayed edges. The normcore-meets-grungy effect is amplified with the low-key colour palette: a choice of indigo called Royal Blue, white and khaki deemed ‘Colonial Beige’.
While hardcore Miu Miu fans would want to match the mood of the runway pieces – think low-waist mini skirts with frayed hems – the versatility of this understated style means it’ll go with almost anything. Talk about a holy grail.
Ahead, a look at the three models you can snag.
