Lunar New Year festivities and decorations may be a much more muted affair this year, but trust Moncler to keep the festive vibes going strong. The outerwear specialist, known for its high-impact-meets-fantasy imagery (who can forget its Rick Owens and Richard Quinn lookbooks for the Genius outing?) has accompanied its Chinese New Year capsule launch with a rousing short film/campaign.

That task fell into the hands of the Shanghainese photographer and former Moncler Voices collaborator, Leslie Zhang. Zhang delved on the tropes of Chinese culture – the ancient art of kung fu and traditional Chinese architecture – to complement the romantic and intrinsic Eastern themes that define his works. The bold use of lucky red hues and the portrayal of kung fu was Zhang’s way of embodying the strength of this year’s Chinese zodiac animal, the Metal Ox,
Keeping with this concept of resilience and armour/protection, Moncler’s CNY collection features a range of durable outerwear staples including reversible puffers, caps and a metallic-coated nylon puffer that’s a nod to the Metal Ox.
