Red carpet (and Michelle Obama’s) favourite Naeem Khan took to the National Gallery on Saturday, Oct 29 to present his latest Spring 2017 collection. Here’s what went down at his show.
Proving that embellishments weren’t the only area he excels at, Khan’s opening looks were an homage to his mentor Halston, who was the biggest name in American fashion in the heady days of the ’70s.
As if you needed more persuasion that yellow will be the colour to be seen in next season, Khan’s collection saw many pieces decked out in various shades of the colour floating down the runway.
Khan may be known for his intricate embroidery and embellishments (thanks in part to his family business in India), but that doesn’t mean he only offers straight-up glamour. For the romantic wood-nymph types out there, Khan also served up pretty delicate Keira Knightley-esque pieces that had us swooning.
Brides-to-be, heads-up: Naeem Khan may be known for his red carpet pieces but his bridal wear isn’t shabby either. Khan chose to close the show with selected looks from his Bridal Spring 2017 collection, tempting potential brides away from usual suspects like Vera Wang and co.
You know the usual runway show format: models stomping down the runway in a blur and appearing one last time in a final parade. The Naeem Khan show ended charmingly with all the models taking up stationary positions along the runway, pausing there to allow the audience to admire the details. It made for a pretty picture too. Why can’t more shows be like that these days?
