New York Fashion Week Show-Goers Are Schooling Us On How To Ace Hot Weather Dressing

What global warming? The word on the street at New York Fashion Week is: Dress up or go home.

by IMRAN JALAL  /   September 13, 2016

If you’re been on a diet of street style, New York Fashion Week goers are your staple right now. But you can’t tell just how hot the temperature is now in the Big Apple judging from the pictures, and judging from the clothes people there have on. For the record: The average temperature in New York right now is up to a high of 32 degrees Celsius (though it sure feels more like it’s 34 degrees Celsius – trust me, I just returned a trip there).

So while the rest of us bemoan the weather for the lack of creativity and style when it comes to dressing, here’s proof of how not even global warming is an excuse for boring dressing. To make things easier, we’ve broken down these looks according some of our favourite summer items (the humble tee, the denim shorts, the off shoulder top, the button down shirt, sandals) and some ingenious layering. Repeat after me: Yes. You. Can. Layer. In. This. Weather.

#2: Or up the sexy factor with knee-high boots.

#4: If all else fails, tuck it in and pair with jeans and a belt. The look's sharp but casual.

#5: If you're blessed with legs, go the Veronika Heilbrunner way, that is, boyish with sneakers and a simple skirt.
image
#6: Wearing sandals and a T-shirt doesn't have to be sloppy. Keeping it hippy and street is interesting.

#7: Eva Chen knows a thing or two about awesome sandals: Just check out her Instagram (@evachen212).

#10: Denim cut-offs with an off-shoulder look keep things Debbie Harry chic.

#11: The Man Repeller agrees. Cue: Always pair the shorts ensemble with a pair of high or kitten heels.

#12: This gives new meaning to the term buttoned-down shirt.

#13: It gives an excuse to don that bodysuit.
