Nicolas Ghesquiere The Visionary Is Back

Watching the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2017 show live from the front row, editor Noelle Loh highlights the looks and pieces that’ll get everybody excited.

by NOELLE LOH IN PARIS  /   October 6, 2016

In the 15 years that he helmed Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquiere was lauded as a fashion seer, the industry’s most directional designer who advanced women’s wear aesthetically, technologically and emotionally. Every one of his collections looked and felt at once new and beautiful. Then he joined Louis Vuitton, the world’s biggest luxury fashion house, in 2013 and while he’s always remained a favourite, he’s never quite consistently made the same impact.

Of course, he’s produced hits: namely the Petite Malle minaudiere and Twist shoulder bag, an impressive feat considering how he was never much of an accessories guy at Balenciaga. And he’s introduced that French cool girl je ne sais quoi so intrinsic to his designs (with some help from his muse/stylist/BFF/ultimate French cool girl Marie Amelie Sauve, and unexpected A-list collaborators ranging from Juergen Teller to Selena Gomez).

But the bold, futuristic vision with which he transformed Balenciaga into the brand to be seen in has never been as pronounced and desirable – until now. Watching the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2017 show live from the front row, editor Noelle Loh highlights the looks and pieces that’ll get everybody excited again.
