The Hottest Colours To Wear In 2017 According To Pantone

Move over, Rose Quartz and Serenity: Pantone’s 2017 colour report reveals that bold, bright hues are the top colours to be seen in.

by SHARON SALIM  /   October 3, 2016

Designers are having a field day with colours for Spring/Summer 2017 (see our trend reports on the yellow shades and neon hues popping up everywhere on the runway). And according to Pantone, these are just some of the most on-trend tones to wear next season.

Its recent Fashion Color Report has declared the top ten shades to be seen in for Spring: Kale, Hazelnut, Pink Yarrow, Greenery, Pale Dogwood, Island Paradise, Flame, Lapis Blue, Primrose Yellow and Niagara. Each shade evokes immediate comparisons to nature, from warm sunny days to cool pristine blue waters. We break down each colour and what runway looks reflect them to a T in our gallery below:

The Hottest Colours To Wear In 2017 According To Pantone
#1: Flame

The orangey-red shade conveys vivacity and flamboyance, and it’s been spotted at brands like Acne Studios and DKNY. Here, Elisabetta Franchi applied the eye-catching colour to a skin-baring jumpsuit.

Tory Burch, meanwhile, splashed it onto a billowy floral maxi.

#2: Greenery

The tangy yellow-green colour, as seen on this sheer Y-Project jumpsuit, conveys a fresh and invigorating aura.

#3: Hazelnut

Slightly darker than nude, the warm, earthy colour is a key neutral for Spring, and is an effortless way to pull off understated chic. Trust Burberry – aka the brand with the heritage trench coat – to introduce the colour in a more modern way.

At DKNY, designer duo Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow mastered neutral tones successfully with their athletic-inspired, cleavage-baring hoodies.

#4: Island Paradise

The aqua shade – emblematic of tropical beaches and clear skies – immediately incites wanderlust. On a chic jumpsuit like at Elisabetta Franchi, its cool, blue-green hue makes it the perfect party outfit for a girls’ night out.

#5: Kale

Yup, there’s a colour named after your favourite superfood vegetable – and it’s right on trend too. This dark olive green shade is the perfect foil to earthy brown tones, as seen at Salvatore Ferragamo.

#6: Lapis Blue

Energetic. Strong. Edgy: The intense blue shade, as seen on this oversized DKNY one-piece, looks great when paired with white sneakers.

#7: Niagara
image

Pantone defines Niagara as a “classic denim-like blue” that’s reportedly the most prevalent colour for Spring 2017. Here, Chiara Boni applied it to a pretty embellished frock.

#7: Niagara

Elsewhere, the colour was featured on Thom Browne’s multi-coloured dresses as a clever and cheeky play on colour-blocking.

#8: Pale Dogwood

Lighter than blush, we love how tranquil and soft it looks against skin. Miuccia Prada lent her feathery midi dress this particular shade, making it a lot more girly.

#8: Pale Dogwood

At Valentino, a model strutted out in a silky, luxurious slip in this same colour.

#9: Pink Yarrow on Mary Katrantzou

This bold pink hue is attention-grabbing and has a lively spirit – so it’s no surprise to see that it appeared at brands like Issey Miyake and Rochas. Mary Katrantzou’s version of it – a ruffled maxi skirt – is also on point.

#9: Pink Yarrow

Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli also applied it liberally onto this long-sleeved number, contrasting it with bold red stripes running from top to bottom.

#10: Primrose Yellow

Warm and cheery, it’s a shade we’ve spotted as a trending colour for Spring. This Jil Sander dress is perfect for a tropical getaway.

#10: Primrose Yellow

Moschino’s take on it is a lot kookier, but no less fun.
