Au revoir, Fashion Week! Paris Fashion Week, the final stop for the fashion batch during the AW’18 presentations, has come to an elaborate conclusion last week. Considering the French capital is known for its distinct sartorial flair, it was to no surprise that the fashion crowd dressed to the nines in street style despite subzero temperatures.
Recalling our favourite looks from the week before, here are the top off-the-moment outfits and accessories to cop for the season.
PVC
From coloured vinyl to clear plastic, PVC is huge in the fashion world right now. As seen on plenty of SS’18 runways and even stretching on to the AW’18 presentations (yes, that’s just how hard they’re trending right now), the sartorial textile of choice for the season is looking slick and incredibly skinny.
Cop the look of these street starts with knee-high kicks from Off-White and a plastic trench coat from Calvin Klein. Not sure on PVC in our tropical climate? Here’s how to wear it in Singapore’s hot weather.
Electric blue
The streets of Paris saw an uplifting veil of bright colours which pop during fashion week. Amongst many others – rainbow pastels and neons included, electric blue ensembles were a hot favourite amongst street style stars.
Designer Esteban Cortazar celebrates his Colombian roots and passion for salsa dancing through the fluid movement and vibrant colours of this dress. Made from smooth stretch-jersey, this dress has form-flattering contoured seams and a swishy fluted hem.
Box bags
A polished and structured box bag looks regal when adorned with charms and embellishments, yet it remains ever so feminine and charming when schelped. It almost resembles a petite version of a traveller’s trunk from days of yore – something which appeals to us vintage lovers.
Dolce & Gabbana’s iconic Dolce box bag is given a luxe update for their Resort SS18 collection with heart badge embellishments. Crafted from black velvet and leather, this compact and handy box bag fastens with a padlock detailed with a signature enamel flower.
Plaid skirts
Slip into one of the season’s biggest trends: Checks and plaids. An effortless way to add sophistication to any outfit, this pattern looks great whether it’s dressed up with a pencil skirt, or down with a preppy A-line mini.
This tweed style is woven with heritage checks and has a modern split at the front which oozes of sultry sex appeal. Polished in grey with an unexpected pop of yellow, this on-trend midi will serve you well whether you’re dressing for the office, or for a glam night out with the girls.
Bright florals
The ever-stylish Irene Kim takes fluorescent brights to the streets of Paris with a vivid blue babydoll dress with colourful floral prints. Dressing for the weather, the Korean model layers up with a long sleeve high neck top, a pair of PVC skinnies, and a pair of ankle boots.
Recreate this look with this dress and orange, magenta and black blooms against a striking bright-blue backdrop. Cut from soft silk crepe de chine, this number features kimono-inspired sleeves and an asymmetric hem to create a beautifully languid drape.
Asymmetrical pleated skirt
Fashion Director of Vogue Australia Christine Centenera wore an oversized tailored jacket and an asymmetrical skirt with micro knife pleats from Celine. A prime example of layering done right, this outfit looks elegantly structured yet relaxed all at the same time.
This chic asymmetric midi skirt features broad box pleats for structure and a high waisted waistband. Minimal and sophisticated, the brilliance of this number lies in the intricacy of its details.
Pinstripe
The power print typical of Wall Street bankers is now one of the chicest staples to rock. Seen here on a button-down dress with deconstructed sleeves, the classic pin-thin striped pattern pulls off casual yet extremely prim and immaculate.
This navy-blue and white pinstriped twill dress is a form-honouring style is cut with a sharp square neckline and slender shoulder straps. Dress this up by wearing it over a crisp white shirt and switch it around for a casual look with a pair of sneakers for the weekend.
