You don’t normally think of Venice when it comes to fashion cities – Milan, sure – but the historic city which happens to be hosting the Venice Architecture Biennale till November was the epicentre of fashion for two days last week.
Before the Valentino couture spectacle on July 15, Saint Laurent brought its menswear Spring 2022 show to the northern island of Isola Della Certosa situated in the Venetian Lagoon. The collection was an outing in Gothic Romance, filled with Byron-esque poet shirts, billowing cloaks and skinny tailored suits.
For the occassion, creative director Anthony Vaccarello tapped Doug Aitken to erect a large-scale site-specific installation. Called Green Lens, the “living experiential artwork” will be open to visitors till the end of this month.
If the show was a feast for the eyes, the guests who flew in for the spectacle was an equally star-studded crowd. Consider Gen-Z pop icons such as LoveLeo and Eddie Benjamin rubbing shoulders with fashion scions like Daniele Cavalli and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
But our favourite celebrity sighting? German lensman Juergen Teller and his partner Dovile Drizyte – the duo were dressed in their trademark tourist shorts and tees. After all, isn’t that the perfect wardrobe for a day in Venice?
