Prada sure is getting sporty. The brand established that when it relaunched its beloved Linea Rossa sportswear line 2018. It made its sporty intentions even clearer when it began collaborating with sportswear giant Adidas. What you probably know of Prada and Adidas’ partnership is their seriously coveted collab from 2019 on Superstar sneakers and a bowling bag. With just 700 sets available worldwide, it quickly became a bit of a collector’s holy grail.
While Prada and Adidas have worked together on sneaker and bag designs before, this is the first time the two are releasing ready-to-wear. The focus, naturally, is on track jackets and pants that bear the German sports brand’s three stripes and the Italian luxury house’s enamelled triangle.
This year, though, the two brands are working together in a more extensive fashion with the launch of a new collection that, for the first time, includes ready-to-wear. The new, mostly black and white collection places a focus on Prada’s sustainably upcycled Re-Nylon material, and (most excitingly!) mixes brand icons. Adidas’ famous three stripes and Prada’s enamelled triangle share space on a number of pieces – opposite ends of a bucket hat or the sides and crest on track jackets, for example.
The 1984 Forum sneaker is the object of desire in this collection. It’s available in black and white, and in high-top and low-top silhouettes. Each version also comes with a pair of removable Re-Nylon pouches.
Important for sneakerheads: the key style in this collection is the Adidas Forum, a basketball design first launched in 1984. Here, it gets the Prada treatment in two ways. First: luxe materials like brushed leather and Re-Nylon. Second: removable pouches that echo the Italian house’s bags and accessories.
Best of all, the hardy nylon material actually makes a lot of these pieces viable gym and workout gear. They’ve got the technical chops from Adidas, with the elevated minimalist style of Prada. They are, if you’ll pardon the pun, quite the flex.
Below, a look at what’s going to be available from 13 January at Prada boutiques and both brands’ websites.
