As one of fashion’s most prolific collaborators, Chitose Abe of Sacai knows what makes a tie-up tick. Her popular outings with Nike, the dreamy Tomo Koizumi tie-up, the playful project with artist Kaws and the reinvention of Cartier’s classic Trinity fine jewellery collection are some of the top-of-mind collaborations from the past that come with that desirable collector’s item cachet.
For the Fall/Winter 2023 season, Abe is turning her focus on one of the linchpins of the workwear scene, the American label Carhartt WIP. Already, this partnership with the Michigan-born brand will continue for a sophomore season in Spring/Summer 2023.

Many of the outerwear pieces in this collection resemble hybrids between Carhartt WIP canvas work jackets and Sacai’s signature nylon twill jackets.
But back to the debut collection which will launch at Dover Street Market Singapore as well as on Sacai’s e-store on Sep 8. The designs cover both womenswear and menswear and span ready-to-wear, accessories and costume jewellery.
Layering is a big element of this collection. For instance, many of the outerwear pieces resemble hybrids of Carhartt WIP’s water-resistant duck fabric jackets and Sacai’s signature nylon twill jackets. Among them is a playful design that looks like Carhartt WIP’s iconic Michigan jacket has been worn over one of Sacai’s nylon bomber jackets.
