After finding success with birthing plenty of It bags at Saint Laurent – cue Sac de Jour, Cassandra, Lou, Kaia et al – it is safe to say that Anthony Vaccarello is a pro at knowing what women want with their designer bags.
His latest offering for Pre-Fall to the brand’s expanding bag lexicon checks all the trademarks of a Vaccarello design. Classic silhouette? Check. Supple leather? Check. Unfussy design? Check. Cassandre-designed logo hardware? Check, check and check.
Christened Solferino, the satchel-inspired style gets its name from Rue de Solferino on Paris’ Left Bank – a seven-minute walk from Saint Laurent’s design studio (which is located at 24 Rue de L’Universite.
The structured design features smooth edges around the corners and padded trimmings giving the Solferino an elegant vintage charm; the shortened shoulder strap means it sits just right on your shoulders.
Available in an S-size (19cm x 13cm x 5cm) and M-size (23cm x 16cm x 6cm), the compact proportions are complemented with different finishes like canvas, snakeskin, suede and box leather (a type of calfskin known for its hardy quality yet supple touch). All in, it’s a chic option for a day bag.
Eagle-eyed fans of Saint Laurent’s bag will notice something different about the Cassandre-designed YSL logo hardware on the flap. That’s because a new ‘secret’ mechanism now lets you seamlessly separate the logo (somewhere around the bottom of the ‘S’ lettering) into half in order to access your belongings.
Which brings us to another aspect of Vaccarello’s bags: they’re getting more playful too.
