Shopping In Singapore: New Look For The Dior 30 Montaigne Bag, Reinvented Tulle At Red Valentino And More
THE NEW LOOK

Just in time for the new year, Dior has given its 30 Montaigne bag collection of structured shoulder bags a little of a sprucing up. The new updates to the line – named after the maison’s ancestral home at  30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris – will sit side by side with the O.G. designs which debuted in Pre-Fall 2019. Sporting a more youthful and trendy appearance than its classic and boxy predecessor, these new models (from $6,200) come with a new chain-and-leather strap, a matte CD logo hardware, a pronounced A-shaped profile, and new leather permutations like braided leather and crinkled leather.

VEILED INTENTIONS

Unless you’ve been in hiding lately, you probably have noticed a big romantic oeuvre in fashion right now thanks to all the tulle and lace from the Spring/Summer 2020 collections. The most exciting purveyors of the trend are the more rebellious brands who are taking a more playful and unexpected approach to the material. Cue fashion labels like Burberry, Christopher Kane, Koche and Marine Serre. For an early start to the reinvented tulle trend, check out the Resort 2020 collection by Red Valentino. Hoodies, zip-up sweaters and duster coats are some items given a lightweight and pretty finish in tulle, creating a wardrobe that melds uber-feminity with a cool street approach.

READY FOR THIS JELLY?

If wearing the 47mm-wide Big Bold watch by Swatch won’t turn heads, then the latest iteration of this whopper-sized timepiece might do the trick. The Big Bold Jelly ($155) features a fresh see-through design courtesy of the translucent silicone strap and a transparent plastic case which shows off the watch’s inner workings. The jolt of colours of the minute, hour and second hands gives the otherwise stark and minimalist design a much-needed upbeat pop.

AN ACTIVE ROLE

Fashionably ironic dad sneakers are so… 2019. The new aesthetic in designer kicks these days seem to riff on the more authentic and rugged designs of active performance trainers. The Blake sneakers by Chloe – an adaptation of its trendier high-cuts Sonnie sneakers from past seasons – adopts the utilitarian designs of hiking and trekking shoes with their sporty laces and lug soles with clashing colourways for the shoe uppers. We say this is a step in the right direction.

BAND AID

Any child of the ’90s would know that there are 101 ways to tie a friendship bracelet. Which is why we have no objections to British label Monica Vinader‘s unconventional take on the design of its Rio friendship bracelet collection (from $240). Inspired by the vibrant colours and textures across Brazil, the bracelets feature metal chains of sterling silver, gold vermeil and rose gold vermeil that are interwoven within a cord. The best way to wear these bracelets – available in two different widths and in hues like turquoise and red –  remains the same then as it is now: stack them up.
