Yoox launches its own fashion label
image

Online retail giant and tech-obsessed company Yoox has debuted an in-house fashion line called 8 by Yoox that’s shaping to be the trendiest label around. That’s because the company — it has reportedly invested more than 500 million euros  (S$784 million) in technology and logistics in its bid to double the size of the business by 2020 — employs its very own artificial intelligence tools to scour content and trends spanning social media and online magazines, with a particular focus on what fashion influencers wear and like.

The result is two collections a year of well-tailored wardrobe staples and accessories with a sleek street style cachet. The current Fall/Winter collection comprises items like a leather circle skirt, wool-blend sweater with bell sleeves, and suede boots with sculptural block heels and predominantly neutral colour palette.

The Mickey Mouse merch keeps on coming
image

You know you’re a well-loved icon when the whole world’s celebrating your 90th birthday. Capping the long list of brands launching special merch to mark Mickey Mouse’s Big 9-0 this year are Uniqlo, Lacoste and Asicstiger. The shoe brand turned to stills from Plane Crazy, Mickey’s first animated cartoon from 1928, which are plastered on a range of sneakers including its popular retro cool  Gel-PTG shoe models. For another take on cute vintage fashion, Lacoste is dropping a range of sweaters, polo shirts, dresses and accessories on Nov 14 featuring embroidery and prints of Minnie Mouse dressed in a retro tennis kit.

And for the ultimate cartoon fan, Uniqlo will be setting up a pop-up store on Nov 10-Jan 1 along Orchard Road which will stock exclusive designs as well as reruns of its past Mickey Mouse collaborations. It’ll follow up with that outing with a special Mickey Mouse exhibition at its Orchard Central Global Flagship store next month.

This is the novelty party bag to own
image

If you’re keen on copping Resort ’19’s hot novelty bag trend that’s riffing on the look of ordinary dust bags and laundry bags, here’s our cheat sheet: Head straight for Bimba Y Lola. The Spanish label has released a series of S-sized drawstring bag designs festooned in glamorous sequins ($140) for the holiday season. The bags can be carried with their nylon strings or a detachable metal chain. Definitely, a more statement-making alternative to minaudieres as you hit the upcoming party circuit.

Etro re-opens in Paragon and launches an anniversary collection
image

You might already have noticed the bright, gilded and sparkly Etro store at Paragon (#01-30) which reopened on Nov 8 – a glamorous 1,700 sq ft store filled with gold finishes, Italian marble flooring and sleek dark grey furniture. Another reason why you should check out the new space? The brand is launching a special capsule collection to fete its 50th anniversary this year.

Dubbed the Etro 50, the collection of apparel and accessories for men and women, is designed by the Etro siblings and creative directors Veronica and Kean Etro. The pieces feature the house’s quintessential boho-chic paisley prints and psychedelic geometric shapes interspersed with fun slogans like ‘Faithful To Love and Beauty’ and youthful designs like backpacks and plimsolls.

Keith Haring-inspired collection launches at Alice+Olivia
image

Besides three concurrent exhibitions happening in New York and Seoul from this month, the works of iconic Pop Art maestro Keith Haring have also landed on a capsule collection ($350-$1,260) with Alice + Olivia. The pieces which include a leather jacket, reversible bomber, cardigan, T-shirts, ball gown skirts, sport Haring’s energetic dancing figures, fluid thick lines and bold pops of colours like canary and cobalt.
