Did Stella McCartney just pay the ultimate tribute to her old man? The designer is launching a capsule collection called All Together Now which is inspired by the psychedelic Beatles film Yellow Submarine which was noted for its make-love-not-war message and digitally remastered for its 50th anniversary last year. The designer is spreading the same mantra by imbuing an optimistic spirit into this brightly-coloured collection. Knitwear and jersey pieces are embroidered with the message “all together now” in multiple languages while positive slogans like “all you need is love” and “love, love, love” appear on outerwear and shirts. The pieces will drop in stores on July 15, so consider this your early bird preview.
Onitsuka Tiger combines two big movements in fashion right now – sustainability and artisanal craftsmanship – for its latest sneakers drop. The Japanese brand has released its relaunched OK Basketball high-tops ($229) and low-cut sneakers ($169) as part of the design’s 70th anniversary featuring shoe uppers made from the traditional sakiori technique a.k.a rag weaving. The latter involves strips of cloth that are handwoven, thread-by-thread, into a new fabric that boasts a raw and beautiful homespun quality. Onitsuka Tiger teamed up with sakiori specialist Saccora Japan for the outing but not without putting its own twist: Rather than using scrap cloth, the weavers made use of leftover synthetic leather to create strips in rainbow colourways.
Amethyst is traditionally the birthstone for February babies. At Bvlgari, the purple stone is the star gem for a capsule collection of pink gold watches that is debuting this month. Dubbed the Serpenti Amethyst Capsule Collection, the launch features three of the brand’s iconic snake-inspired watches – (from left) the Misteriosi bangle watch, the Incantati watch, and the Scaglie wraparound bracelet watch – decorated with a total of 318 amethysts to crank up the glam factor of these timepieces even more.
While logo-emblazoned merch is not fading anytime yet, it has certainly evolved. And Tommy Jeans got the memo. For its latest summer capsule collection, the brand is launching a series of womenswear and menswear pieces that feature the brand’s familiar iconography from the ’90s done with a fresh emoji sticker effect. Youthful streetwear staples like the sweatshirts and cropped sweaters are plastered with multiple embroideries of the elliptical Tommy Jeans motifs, while the Tommy Jeans flag logo is blown up on a T-shirt. This is where you insert the 100 point emoji for creativity.
