Here’s How To Pull Off Silver Outfits On The Daily Like A Fashion Girl

Shine bright like a diamond.

by Sean Tham  /   October 9, 2018

This Fall, futuristic themes are in — and by that, we mean high impact, high shine, metallic silver. Models wearing this blazing shade have been hitting the runways, but don’t fret — while silver can be a head-turning statement trend, it’s way more wearable than it looks.

Go bold with a gown seen at Alberta Ferretti, or something muted and understated like an outerwear piece or a pair of straight-cut trousers from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Christian Dior. Need a party dress? Halpern and Virgil Abloh’s Off-White have got you covered. Here are more tips on how you can carry off this look without looking like a space cadet.

Here's How To Pull Off Silver Outfits On The Daily Like A Fashion Girl
1. A fancy top that you can wear for both day and night
image

For something a little less blinding, go for pops of silver rather than a complete head-to-toe look. We suggest a long-sleeved silver sequin top that works just fine for both day and night. It’s shiny, it’s celebratory, and it’s perfect for parties. Jazz it up with some jeans and a straw bag if you’re running errands during the weekends, or don a pair of wide-legged trousers and a clutch for a dinner party.

Shop the look:

Sequinned crop top with flare sleeves by Zara, S$59.90; Wide-leg jeans with toggle detail by JW Anderson, €490 (S$774), via Mytheresa; Patent leather pumps by Tibi, €450 (S$711), via Mytheresa; Leather trimmed woven bucket bag by Cesta Collective, £325 (S$576), via Net-a-Porter; Silver hoop earrings with gold chain detail by Miu Miu, £315 (S$558), via Net-a-Porter

2. A full on pants-suit for the working girl

If you’re looking to be more bold in your outfit choices, consider introducing silver into your working wardrobe as well. All you have to do is to pick the right suit. We’ve selected one that comes with a crinkled texture to make it a tad more interesting. Either wear it as a coordinate or split the suit up — blazer for Mondays and pants on Friday — to achieve more bang for your buck.

Shop the look:

Crushed silver cotton blazer by Zadig & Voltaire, €495 (S$783); Crushed silver cotton cropped pants by Zadig & Voltaire, €265 (S$419); Crocodile embossed leather slingback pumps by Aquazurra, £470 (S$833), via Net-a-Porter; Vintage check and leather top handle bag by Burberry, S$2,290, via Farfetch; Gold bejewelled earrings by Zara, S$29.90

3. An understated dress that’s great for any event
image

A slinky silver maxi is a must-have. Exuding both relaxed elegance yet still exquisitely glamorous, its figure-hugging smooth silhouette will definitely turn heads. Instead of going for one that’s super ostentatious (thus running the risk of you not being able to re-wear it), opt for a more muted hue, like the one above.

Shop the look:

Metallic satin gown by Les Héroïnes, £385 (S$682), via Net-a-Porter; Leather strappy heeled sandals by Zara, US$169 (S$231); Velvet drawstring pouch with feather detail by The Volon, £665 (S$1,177), via Net-a-Porter; Gold, enamel and resin drop necklace by Chloé, £455 (S$806), via Net-a-Porter; Gold ring with lacquered coral details by Aurélie Bidermann, US$325 (S$445)

4. The casual date-worthy skirt
image

Silver can be a little intimidating for a casual date outfit, so leave your silver power suit at home and go for a simple metallic skirt. It’s tamer, yet still a bold fashion choice. Instead of pairing your silver skirt with a monochromatic palette, go for bright hues that complement one another: green, orange and red scream “fun” and are perfect for a first impression date.

Shop the look:

Buttoned sleeve knitted t-shirt by Topshop, S$49.90; Metallic mini skirt by Paco Rabanne, S$564, via Farfetch; Suede block-heel sandals by Jacquemus, S$727, via Farfetch; Heart quilted leather clutch by Anya Hindmarch, £295 (S$523), via Net-a-Porter; Baroque gold plated necklace with hardware and pearl detail by Alighieri, £560 (S$992), via Net-a-Porter

5. Let the soles speak for themselves
image

Here’s a way to incorporate the silver trend without it being over-the-top: go for a pair of trendy silver footwear instead, such as this pair of booties. Finish off the look with a pair of black jeans and printed blouse, then add a pair of crystal earrings to up the glam factor. Make sure your jeans are cropped so you can show off those booties.

Shop the look:

Oversized zebra printed cotton shirt by Marni, £710 (S$1,261), via Net-a-Porter; Cropped bootcut denim jeans with raw hems by Saint Laurent, S$950; Mirrored ankle leather boots by Balenciaga, £790 (S$1,403), via Net-a-Porter; Patent leather shoulder bag by Isabel Marant, US$1,421 (S$1,942), via Matchesfashion; Crystal dangling earrings by Zara, S$39.90
