They’ve got style, sartorial edge and a point of view that sets them apart from the hashtag influencer crowd – yes, they are our Female collective. And while we may know their favourite hang-out spots during the festive season and their approach to partying, where do these cool It girls like to shop in Singapore? We talk to Amanda Keisha Ang, Guan Min, Aarika Lee and Charmaine Seah-Ong about their favourite shops in town.
Tangs Level 2
“They carry a whole bunch of Singapore designers, my favourite being In Good Company of course, and also Aijek, Collate and Anothersole. Being a big supporter of local brands, they also frequently have pop-ups of brands such as Max Tan, Exhibit and Matter Prints.”
The Lula Loft (www.lularock.com)
“Owner Maxie Chan has the best taste in clothes, shoes and accessories and she curates an amazing selection in her little loft showroom. From the best of Alice McCall to vintage inspired Amelie Pichard heels, gorgeous Sretsis pieces and more, it’s like falling down the rabbit hole and finding yourself in Wonderland… but filled with clothes!”
Far East Plaza
“I can’t name you a single store, I usually just allow myself to walk around aimlessly and explore random, tiny stores on a whim. But I always leave with something I love, and usually from random Korean brands. I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager. FEP holds a special place in my heart!”
Others
“Other places I shop at would be the Beyond The Vines store because I love their effortless classic cuts and most of my wardrobe basics are from there, On Pedder for when I need my shoe fix, and Forum Galleria because I can hit up CK, Pleats Please and Club21b all at the same time. DSM SG is obviously new on the list but is definitely a place I can see myself frequenting too, even if it’s just to window shop all the cool cult brands they stock or to get my Nike Lab fix.”
268 @ Orchard – Surrender, Off White & Christian Dada
“Aside from the fact that I work here, I’ve been a long time fan of Surrender. The curation here is well edited with an interesting mix of brands under one roof. My personal favourites are Unravel by Ben Taverniti, Hyein Seo, Area, Palm Angels, Fxxking Rabbits, Off White and Christian Dada.”
Sephora
“I get most of my beauty supplies here! I love the brands that they carry and some favourites from skincare would be Skin Inc, Kate Somerville and Fresh. For makeup, I love Nars, Cover FX, Kat Von D and Urban Decay.”
H&M and Zara
“These are still my go-to for basics that I can thrash around and abuse without feeling guilty about it. You can find some really well-designed pieces each season and if it’s on sale, even better!”
Matter – www.matterprints.com
“I love what Matter stands for and what it works towards. They’re a socially motivated brand driven by purpose and provenance, so it’s more than just creating sustainable and ethically-made garments, they champion the stories and lives that are involved in creating these garments. Matter also embraces heritage and traditional art-practices throughout South-East Asia with the production of their very stylish garments, educating and expanding a community of responsible shoppers/wearers. These are things I truly resonate with.”
Gallery & Co.
“I’ve always been a fan of museum/art gallery shops and Gallery & Co. is one I especially love. Mainly because it’s in my very own city, and it carries everything from books, to homeware, to baby clothes from local as well as international artists. I always find a great gift there.”
Lula Rock – www.lularock.com
“Whenever I want to find an outfit that’s special; a little quirkier, with a little more character and fun, I go to lularock.com or call my wonderful friend, Maxie Chan, to ask if I can stop by the Lula Loft to spend an afternoon playing dress up. It’s the best way to shop: without rush, with wine and snacks, and good company.”
Cos
“I like its unfussy aesthetics and the quality is great too. I have a few pieces I’ve definitely kept on rotation and I also like their lingerie.”
Vans
“I’ve been buying sneakers from the brand since I was 14, and I always have at least two to three pairs on hand.”
Bubblegum @ Orchard Central
“I buy lots of band tees there! I mean, music is a big part of my life, and also with the people that surround me. I usually go there to get gifts for people so I just search for a tee from a band they like.”
Melissa Shoes
“I love their shoes so much, their new collection is super amazing!”
Zha Huo Dian
“Tucked away in Far East Plaza, the once flourishing teenage hangout still houses some very cool independent shops. I’ve grown up being surrounded by design and urban art, and Zha Huo Dian brings in really cool brands such as Pleasures and Bow3ry, with some vintage inspired items and other streetwear.”
Deja Vu Vintage
“I like vintage clothing, and true collectors know vintage shops are hard to come by in Singapore. Owner Kelly Yeo curates and handpicks all her pieces, that ranges from designer labels like YSL, Cavalli, Vera Wang, Moschino and more.”
Vans
“One of my favourite brands in the world, they’ve been working with some cool labels and artists such as Lazy Oaf, A Tribe Called Quest and local illustrator Mr Tuck. The store always has something for me (mainly shoes).”
