There’s another way to show off your Business Class seats on Singapore Airlines (SIA). The national carrier has teamed up with homegrown fashion giant Charles & Keith to launch an eco-friendly limited-edition bag and wallet crafted from upcycled leather used for the Business Class seats of its retired aircrafts.

The styles picked for the collection – a semi-circle crossbody bag called Philomena and quilted Brielle short chain wallet – are two best-selling designs by the fashion brand. The upcycled leather comes in a choice of brown, brick and camel – a nostalgic sight for frequent travellers – and assembled on the body of the bag and wallet as panels with stitching details. Both designs will be available in the three colours.

Charles & Keith’s head of sustainability, Kelvin Wong says that the upcycled collection with Singapore Airlines “is just one of the latest in a series of eco-minded initiatives from our brand – we want to show our commitment to sustainability, and try to improve little by little.”
The sustainability touches continue in the inside as well as the packaging: cushion covers and bedsheets have been turned into inner lining while blankets have been repurposed into dustbags. To commemorate the collaboration, logos of Charles & Keith and SIA are hot stamped on the inside of the bag and wallet.

The dust bags used in the collection are made from SQ business class blankets.
The collection will be available for purchase from Charles & Keith’s e-shop and KrisShop from August 8. In the meantime, curious shoppers can get a preview of the designs IRL from now till August 18 at a pop-up showcase at Design Orchard.
