Meet Marie de La Roche – a year-old eponymous label launched in 2015 in Kuwait. The exoticism doesn’t stop there either – while the designer is Colombian, she received her design creds in Singapore at the Raffles Design Institute. Exotics aside, the brand produces some of the cutest bags we’ve seen in a long while and we’re thinking we know where we will be shopping for the upcoming festive season.
Here, we highlight 5 things to know about this young label:
The design details of the bags take inspiration from the empire’s domes, palatial windows, and gates, interpreting these architectural elements with unexpected and bright combinations of colour.
All the bags are produced in Turkey through a process that upholds the tradition of hand-made craft while updating production design with the precision of technology. Take this blue top handle for example: the fin-like outer edge is made of hand-stitched ruched leather while the yellow and white cut-outs are done by laser. It’s quality work that shows that the brand cares.
If a top-handle bag isn’t your thing, how about a cute clutch instead? They’d make the perfect conversation-starter for the upcoming festive season, prompting squeals of delight (and envy).
As if the delicious colour combinations aren’t enough, there are also some furred versions to up your quirky style quotient – perfect for those who are crazy over furry accessories.
While Marie de la Roche is unabashedly feminine, that doesn’t mean the men are left out – far from it, she also does a very classic range for all the dandies out there.
Playful, eclectic and colourful; Marie de la Roche’s Fall 2016 collection is now available in Singapore at the Phuong MY outlet in Takashimaya. With prices ranging from S$650-$700, they not only make for super-fun, stand-out bags to tote around town but also valued buys considering the amount of work that goes into making every piece. Don’t want to have to fight the hordes to get your hands on them on Orchard Road? Shop from the comfort of home here.
