What Went Down At Stolen’s Show At Singapore Fashion Week

From the theatrical performance to the tribal-inspired makeup, we highlight 5 things that stood out at homegrown brand Stolen’s show.

by SHARON SALIM  /   October 30, 2016

10-year-old local brand Stolen debuted its Spring/Summer 2017 collection last night at Singapore Fashion Week. Our verdict: From the theatrical performance that was staged to the tribal-inspired makeup, the collection was absolutely captivating.

Here, we highlight five things that stood out for us during the show:

What Went Down At Stolen's Show At Singapore Fashion Week
#1: An unexpected theatrical performance wowed everyone.

It was the brand’s debut showcase, and what took place certainly captivated every single show-goer: After a short soliloquy by one model, others walked in and out with graceful movements and chereographed dance steps, accompanied by a sweetly straining melody played by a live band.

#2: Sexy, backless pieces still dominated the collection.

Dubbed “Concur”, the collection was filled with interesting back details, a signature style that founder and designer Elyn Wong has kept consistent across seasons. This time, though, designs were geared towards boxy, masculine forms, combining hard raw silk fabric with soft, see-through Japanese organza.

#3: The ruffled layers of fabric models were draped in were part of the spectacle.

It was hard to miss the eye-catching “accessories” the models wore, especially when they appeared to be part of the looks and appeared equally wearable.

#4: Soft, pastel hues were everywhere.

Dresses and tops came in mellow shades like a blush pink, grey and a mint green, and their details – a sexy V-back dress here, and a sheer, pleated skirt there –  stood out in high contrast amidst a darkened room.

#5: Tribal-inspired makeup completed the show's other-worldly quality.

Backstage, we spotted makeup artists sweeping single white streaks of paint across the models’ foreheads and cheeks. The result: A painterly effect that was a fitting accompaniment to the brand’s artistic, emotive showcase.
