Why? To diverge from fashion’s breakneck pace of production so that he can focus his energies on getting his craft right.
After graduating with an MA in Fashion Design from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, he established his eponymous label in his home city of Bangkok in 2017.
Obsessed with shoes as the foundation of any look, he enrolled in a footwear course at Milan’s famed Arsutoria School to better understand the trade, and continues to design and sell his own shoes – all of which come with an assertive, curved heel – on his website (shonepuipia.com).
Richly clashing colours and prints are Puipia signatures, and he even develops his own textiles with collaborators. His latest collection titled Fever features a key collaboration with One More Thing, a Bangkok-based material-driven brand.
Together, they’ve created 28 original jacquard fabrics with everything on display at Soi Sa:m – Puipia’s holistic outfit in central Bangkok that’s his studio, archives, boutique and art exhibition space all-in-one.
Fashion and art are equally powerful forces that have shaped his practice, he says (small wonder, considering that his mother Pinaree Sanpitak is one of Thailand’s most influential artists).
Next up: His newly re-designed website launches this month with more ready-to-wear pieces available for international customers.
