If there’s one place to find the fashion crowd during quarantine, it would be on Nintendo’s latest video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For the uninitiated, the whole idea behind the game is that you are stuck on an island – it even has a clothing store – and go about daily activities like fishing or catching butterflies. While the game has been marketed for kids, with an age rating of three and up, it has become the go-to platform for the fashion-deprived adults as you can deck out your character in the freshest fits by sketching an original design – thus letting you the freedom to play with your wardrobe.
One brand leveraging on this new hotspot is Valentino who just dropped its Summer and Pre-Fall collections on the platform. The Italian fashion house has partnered with photographer Kara Chung of the Instagram account @animalcrossingfashionarchive who has gained a following during this era of social distancing for her fashionable Animal Crossing avatars. Together with Valentino, Chung created 20 custom looks – from fluorescent dresses to VLTN bucket hats – which gamers can download via a QR code on the maison’s and Chung’s Instagram pages. Now doesn’t that make you want to play too? Above, a special fashion editorial featuring these designs.
