If you’ve been by the Louis Vuitton Island Maison at Marina Bay Sands in the past week, you might have noticed that boutique’s exterior currently sports a colourful facade. Like a 21st century smoke signal, that’s Virgil Abloh‘s way of telling you that his first menswear collection for Louis Vuitton (Spring/Summer ’19) has arrived in stores. As the hyper-conceptual guy we’ve come to know him to be, the vibrancy of this calling card — and first and foremost, the collection — is inspired by the rainbow created when white light passes through a prism. But before any hardcore Abloh fans show solidarity by digging out their old Pink Floyd tees, we’ve rounded up his best accessories that you can purchase, right now.
Highlights include: the retail version of that iridescent Keepall Playboi Carti closed the runway show with (grail!); a tie-dye fur Christopher backpack (a distinct S/S ’19 trope also executed on soft lambskin trousers, fur scarves, a leather cap…); the Soft Trunk crossbody embellished with the season’s instantly recognisable plastic chain links (great bag for everyday wear); and the harness with a pouch tacked on — a sampling of that vest you’ve been seeing on Abloh himself and the likes of Timothee Chalamet (haven’t you heard? post-apocalyptic fashion is where it’s at).
Available at Louis Vuitton boutiques.
