Several historical references were made by Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection. One of which was to American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham – specifically her 1930 production of Lamentation which had dancers costumed in a tube of fabric. The other was the house’s Spring/Summer Haute Couture 1985 which had hooded capuche dresses.

Vaccarello’s creations have always centered around the relationship one’s body has with clothes – compelling him to create clothes around the idea of “enveloping the body from head to toe.”
These inspirations served as strong points of reference for the collection which is replete with floor-length silk jersey dresses paired with voluminous wool coats, leather coats and trench coats. Camel, olive, midnight blue and a vintage-tinged purple form the colour palette for the collection, while the tactile quality of the outing is evident in the wood and gold-tone cuffs and shoes in a luxurious smooth satin material.

Equally stylish as it is practical, this oversized bag is characterised by its supple quilted texture, the light bronze zip closure and an embroidered Yves Saint Laurent logo on the body. Other features include a detachable leather case and a key chain that contains the keys to the tiny padlock detail.
The YSL logo is one of the most iconic and also one of the sexiest in the business. Back in 1961, French typeface designer Adolphe Jean Marie Mouron (who chose the alias Cassandre) was approached to design the house’s logo, seen above on the flap of the Calypso bag.
If you’re wondering, the term “carre rive gauche” refers to the two-tone, quilted design that all Jamie bags have on the exterior. The Jamie bag is said to be made to be timeless and always in style, like this leather-suede combination that also comes in a black and light taupe colourway.
To say shoes are one of Saint Laurent’s strong suits is an understatement. Though Yves Saint Laurent himself described shoes as a discreet detail in an outfit, the standards to which he expected them to be made are nonetheless high – and it seems Vaccarello has that same eye for detail. We love the addition of the rhinestone-covered buckle strap on these supple silk-satin slingback pumps (which also come in a tan brown and black).
Peep the cheeky detail of little rhinestone lettering spelling out “YSL” along the straps.
One of the most eye-catching elements in the Spring/Summer 2023 collection is the cuff. This graphic gold-tone design mimics the shape and curves of a seashell.
A sleek pair of sunglasses will never fall short of giving any outfit an edge. Take, for instance, this sleek silver pair of sunnies with an elongated frame and metal nose pads.
We’re getting a strong ’80s energy from this cropped, biker-style leather jacket thanks to the addition of shoulder pads. This luscious outerwear comes with a storm flap (intended to protect the opening in the case of rain) and an adjustable belt at the waist and wrist.
Though we wouldn’t recommend this semi-sheer, high-neck dress for the office, we would for your next date night with your boo.
You don’t expect anything less from a maison known for its tuxedos and this coat proves that point. This well-tailored coat comes with a sophisticated notched lapel often seen on men’s dress jackets.
