More (Yes, More) Year Of The Pig Designer Merch To Consider

by Sean Tham  /   January 22, 2019

As we commemorate Chinese New Year with ang paos, house gatherings and heaps of goodies, designers are joining in the festivity by incorporating adorable piggy motifs into their ready-to-wear collections to celebrate the Year of the Pig. From the Chinese character ‘豬’ in calligraphy-print across a Vetements tee to a flying boar keychain by Yohji Yamamoto, the occasion’s adorable apparel and accessories, above.

Featuring gold-tone hardware and MCM’s iconic all-over logo print, add a touch of cuteness to your black purses with this soft pink pig keyring.

Sweatshirt with piglet embroidery by Gucci, US$1,350 (S$1,857)

Who better than Gucci — known for their animal-festooned clothing and accessories since Alessandro Michele’s reign — to put their hat in the ring for Year of the Pig merch (more, here)? Giving the brand’s logo a whimsical spin with a rosebud print and a playful pig, this oversized cotton jumper is 100 per cent Michele eccentricity. Go all out with the Gucci aesthetic and elevate with a metallic pleated skirt and, the Florentine house’s leather mules.

Piggy patchwork cardigan by Ultrachic, S$595, via Farfetch

If you’re planning to staying indoors all day, cozy up in this wool-cashmere blend cardigan with, what else but, a pig patchwork. Haven’t you heard? The shrunken cardigan’s more than just librarian chic of late.

Cotton T-shirt by Vetements, £175 (S$313), via Net-a-Porter

The most discreet reference to the Year of the Pig by far, wear this ‘豬’ (Chinese for pig) T-shirt with light wash boyfriend jeans and some sneakers.

Coin case by Coach, S$150

New year, new purse: consider this piggy leather case great for keys and loose change.

Printed cotton T-shirt by Vetements, £280 (S$494), via Net-a-Porter

Crafted in an oversized fit, this t-shirt is from a collection titled “The Elephant in the Room”, which showcases Martin Margiela’s design influence on Demna Gvasalia. Made to look as though it has been smeared with oil with the words Good Luck on its chest — a play on the Chinese’s emphasis on luck and fortune — we say go all out and layer it underneath a boiler suit.

Flying pig key ring by Yohji Yamamoto, S$711, via Farfetch

Keep your keys safe by jazzing it up with this eccentric key ring. Give your #OOTDs an extra oomph by clipping this eye-catching piece onto the belt loops of your trousers.

14k yellow gold ring by Retrouvai, US$1,100 (S$1,509)

Flying pigs are a representation of strength for one to overcome life’s greatest obstacles. So, if you’re one who’s superstitious, ring in the new year by donning this gold ring.
