7 All-Black Watches That Will Stand The Test Of Time

Welcome to the dark side.

The chic quality and timelessness of the colour black cannot be overshadowed – and the same can definitely be said for all-black watches (we’re talking from the dials right to the strap). But make no mistake, though: Going completely monotone by no means rules out the fun factor of a timepiece, as proven by our round-up of the noir beauties below.

La D de Dior Black Ultramatte steel watch on matching bracelet, $7,200, Dior
image

There’s all-black watches, and then there is this ultra matte all-black watch from the watch line that Dior introduced in 2003. Measuring 34mm, the quartz-run timepiece sports a textured steel bezel and crown paved with 13 brilliant-cut black diamond. And instead of numerals, the three, six and nine o’clock markers are replaced by diamonds, to give some shine to an otherwise muted design. Dior also has a more glamorous version of the watch that comes with a bezel set with 52 diamonds.

Gucci Grip steel watch on matching bracelet, $2,620, Gucci
image

Gucci’s Grip watch has been on our radar since its launch in 2019 for its unconventional style – the hour, minute and date are all seen through small display windows on the steel-encased watch face. The latest update to the line is a 38mm quartz-powered model featuring a semi-matte PVD-coated steel case and matching strap, emblazoned with the brand’s interlocking GG logo.

Bulgari Bulgari steel watch on matching bracelet, $7,120, Bulgari

The latest addition to Bulgari’s four decades-old watch collection looks refreshingly modern with its glossy 41mm stainless steel case and logo-engraved bezel. White hour markers and indices sit boldly atop the black lacquered dial, driven by the self-winding Solo Tempo calibre that’s visible on the watch’s case back. A 33mm version is also available.

Black Bay Ceramic watch on leather and rubber strap, $6,600, Tudor

This ceramic version of Tudor’s iconic diving watch is powered by Tudor’s new black Manufacture Calibre MT5602-1U, made specifically for this timepiece, boasts a 70-hour power reserve, which means you won’t need to rewind your watch for almost three days.

Piaget Polo steel watch on rubber strap, $16,900, Piaget

Renowned for its round and cushion-shaped design, the Piaget Polo timepiece (introduced in 1979 by Yves G. Piaget) is known for its sporty-meets-elegant good looks. This automatic version comes in a 42mm steel case with an inky-hue. If you’re looking to switch things up, the rubber strap can be switched out for a leather one.

Piaget
Royal Oak ceramic watch on matching bracelet, $82,200, Audemars Piguet
image

Only 300 pieces of this 34mm limited-edition ceramic timepiece are produced by the Swiss watchmaker. Created in collaboration with Italian jewellery designer Carolina Bucci, the collectable design is made to fete the 50th anniversary of the women’s watch range. Bucci, who has collaborated with the brand twice before, adds a rainbow mirror effect on the all-black dial – a nod to the Royal Oak’s distinctive Tapisserie geometric pattern on the dial. Within the 34mm case: 22-carat pink gold hands and hourly indicators that contrast the dial. The titanium and sapphire caseback is engraved with the inscription “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci” and reveals the beating heart of this unisex ticker: the Calibre 5800 that has a 50-hour power reserve.

Ralph Lauren’s Stirrup collection, which debuted in 2009, marries the American house’s equestrian heritage with our love affair with chain jewellery. The newest additions to the range is its sleekest one yet: the small 27mm and petite 23mm models in a glossy black finish; and the large 36mm and medium 32mm versions in a modern matte-black finish.
