Jewellery is not something to simply accessorise an outfit. It can make for a great investment. We spoke to Lucia Silvestri, Bvlgari’s jewellery creative director, on why this is so, and also got insights on how gems are linked to love.
“Colourful, cheerful, sober, feminine, and at the same time, classic.”
“My must-have is the Serpenti watch in pink gold and black ceramic. And I always have lots of jewellery on me: bracelets that I never take off, including an iconic one from the B.Zero1 Zaha Hadid collection, and a tubogas Monete choker. When I am in the office, I do change my necklaces every day, sometimes wearing and appreciating our High Jewellery creations while at my workspace.”

“A pair of stud earrings with diamonds and emerald.”
“Bracelets – large and small. I can wear up to 10 bracelets at a time! I like to wear tennis bracelets with coloured sapphires as I find them cheerful, fun and feminine, and of course, I also like to mix them.”
“On weekends, I tend to dress more casually, but one thing is a constant – heels!”
“What’s important to me in jewellery, even when I create it, is its wearability. The same thing applies when I buy it – it must be versatile enough for both day and night.”
“I really like Alberta Ferretti and Giambattista Valli – they’re contemporary and high quality, and above all, have a style that is always renewed. For day, I like to mix brands. I do not follow a stylist and I do not follow fashion trends. I buy what I like and that makes me feel at ease. I also like the eclectic work of (Italian artist-designer) Cleto Munari.”
“Most definitely, my beloved gemstones.”
“A small Bvlgari watch, a collaboration with Baume & Mercier, that my parents gave me for my First Communion.”
“There is always a story behind it. That, for me, is always linked to love or a loved one – a friend, a family member or even yourself.”
“Precious and top quality stones like those used in Bvlgari’s (designs) have become increasingly rare and precious, so I believe that they will hold their value.”
“Returning to my ‘former’ life: travelling, which is my source of inspiration; relating to my team in the office; and no longer seeing the social distancing – though we still have to pay close attention to that today of course.
