This year’s Cannes Film Festival, which ended on Sunday, may have already made us long to watch Palme d’Or winner Ruben Ostlund’s art-world satire The Square. But it’s also giving us some great ideas to pull off jewellery thanks to the slew of styling on the red carpet. Here, we round up some of our favourites.
Rihanna scored a hat trick here. One: For her princess-cut ivory taffeta couture gown from Dior. Two: For her sci-fi Andy Wolf Eyewear shades. Three: For showing off the pieces from her high jewellery collaboration with Chopard. Her tribal hand tattoo gave the white gold floral coil bracelet more dimension and depth. A more DIY-friendly inspiration? Apply stick-on or henna tattoos and layer bracelets, rings and necklaces over them.
Again, Riri showed us how with emeralds from Chopard. Here, she paired 11.94-carats of the stones on her earrings, 31.95 carats of cushion-shaped emerald on her bracelet, and finished it off with rings set with the same stone.
At the premiere of Roman Polanski’s Based On A True Story, model Karolina Kurkova worked her ’80s-inspired hairdo with a mullet dress from Ashi Studio and her Chopard choker.
Nicole Kidman brought back her red carpet A-game at Cannes this year with a slew of winning looks. At premiere of The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, the Aussie actress donned a ballerina-inspired tulle number from the Calvin Klein by Appointment line. The dress was dramatic (and reportedly took 150 hours to finish) but she toned down the look with super classic Harry Winston diamond ear studs.
As with our necklaces, stacking our jewellery is a style hack we always turn to. Model Liu Wen did it with her earrings. Besides the drop diamond earrings from Chopard, she also piled on three ear studs and piercings on one ear.
Elizabeth Olsen did so with her Chopard earrings for a refreshing effect. PS: This works best with ear studs, not dangling earrings.
It’s an unspoken rule that you only wear a necklace or a pair of earrings, but never both, to keep the look from being uncluttered. Adriana Lima showed how it’s done with these graphic pieces from Chopard.
Actress Clotilde Hesme and jury member of the Cinefondation gave her usual classic French style a rockstar makeover with a white gold and diamond ear cuff from Chanel Fine Jewellery.
Just ask French model and actress Aymeline Valade who paired her tuxedo with drop earrings from Chopard.
Exhibit A: Veronika Heilbrunner, co-founder of Hey Woman! and street style star who paired her Chopard collar necklace with simple ear piercings and out-of-bed hair.
Cue the embellished Prada bustier dress and the matching sapphire chandelier earrings of Frenc-English actress Stacy Martin.
