How does one meld the past beautifully with the present? The answer lies in the form of jewellery – specifically, the Legacy collection by homegrown jeweller Poh Heng.
As its name suggests, the Legacy collection pays tribute to Singapore’s rich traditions, but in a refreshing and modern way. Its inspiration? Our local Peranakan culture.
Pamela Seow, assistant general manager at Poh Heng, shares: “Our Legacy Collection is inspired by the distinct look of floral tiles found in Peranakan households. It is a modern take on historic pieces – displaying the intricacies of Peranakan design while retaining a simple and modern silhouette.”
The Poh Heng Legacy collection, featuring floral motifs and mood-boosting gemstones, pays tribute to Peranakan heritage.
The Legacy Collection was first launched in 2019. While the previous two installations, featuring precious stones, are more suited for special occasions, this latest installation is designed with the modern woman in mind, and for everyday use.
In a nod to Peranakan tradition, each piece features intricate floral motifs made in 18K yellow and rose gold. Lending a contemporary touch to the recognisable motifs are vibrant, mood-boosting gemstones such as lapis lazuli, malachite, agate and mother of pearl.
Seow adds: “The collection’s clean and modern shapes are representational of modern times, while the intricate floral designs remind us of our traditional roots.”
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Peek into any traditional Peranakan home, and the first thing that strikes you is the bold use of colour on the walls, tiles and homewares. And the third installation of the Poh Heng Legacy Collection clearly reflects that with its use of vibrant hues that evoke the richness of the Peranakan culture.
