Which Tissot Girl Are You?

by art  /   December 1, 2016

Some people treat watches as accessories. Others treat them as mechanical wonders. For Swiss watchmaker Tissot, its feminine timepieces tick both boxes. And it has the right fit for whatever personality you are.

TISSOT SPECIAL

It may have a reputation for the sporty and masculine (MotoGP and NBA are some of the events it’s associated with), but Swiss watch brand Tissot knows a thing or two about appealing to women. Throughout its 164-year-old history, it has not only crafted some of the most classic and handsome timepieces – a skill it honed from its long history of creating pocket watches –  but is also behind some of the edgiest timepieces ever seen, pioneering watches carved out of rocks, wood and pearls throughout the ’70s before they become trendy today (explains why Grace Kelly was a fan). Fast forward to today, and the options for its female customers continue to grow. Three fashion-forward lines – Le Locle Automatic, T Touch Lady Solar and the Chemin des Tourelles – make for the perfect accessory for the different personalities with their distinct styles. Here, we zoom in on the finer details as you decide on the right piece for yourself.

Which Tissot Girl Are You?
FOR THE INTELLECTUALS: CHEMIN DES TOURELLES POWERMATIC 80 LADY

Her wardrobe is filled with sleek and austere silhouettes (think crisp pantsuits and ‘90s-era column dresses). While her style heroes include alpha female types like Phoebe Philo and Rei Kawakubo.

Like the clothes she favours, she gravitates towards modernist lines in a timepiece. The contemporary design of the Chemin des Tourelles Powermatic 80 ticks that box. Cue the beautiful details such as clous de Paris under the Roman indices which are in a hypnotic circular pattern and the white mother-of-pearl 32mm dial that are paired with slender Roman indexes.

All six versions of this model – from brushed steel version to rouge-coloured strap – are powered by the accurate and durable Powermatic 80 movement. Just how reliable is it? The watch ($1,090-$1,380) provides up to 80 hours of power reserve.

FOR THE CLASSY TYPES: LE LOCLE AUTOMATIC LADY

Be it for day or night, her uniform comprises ultra-feminine and classic pieces that will outlive any trends. The skirt suit, the slip dress and midi skirts are just some of her wardrobe staples.

The watch takes its namesake after its home base of Le Locle (aka the hub of Swiss watchmaking). The traditional design of the timepiece — inspired by the clock design of a church tower in Le Locle — is a testament of this homage. These include the date display at three o’clock, the elegant mother-of-pearl dials, as well as the vintage “Le Locle” signature.

As classic as the piece is, the folk at Tissot has added some modern touches too. Instead of a dainty watch case, the watch ($890-$1,050) boasts a striking 39.3mm case, with some models featuring diamond studs for indexes.

FOR THE FUN GIRL: T-TOUCH LADY SOLAR

As the irreverent one, this is the woman who is not shy to experiment with her personal style – be it through her over-the-top fuzzy accessories or off-kilter layering.

FOR THE FUN GIRL: T-TOUCH LADY SOLAR

Solar-powered and activated by just a touch (yes, just like your smartphone), this watch is made for the millenial. The bonus? Even the crown can be toggled by touching so you never have to damage your manicure.
