5 Things To Check Out From Home: 88rising's Hip Hop Festival, Film Quiz Night & More

Our edit of things to occupy your time with during this #StayHome period.

1. Gajah Gallery’s first online exhibition

Gajah Gallery’s first digital exhibition, titled A Scanner Darkly, features the works of contemporary Indonesian artist Rosit Mulyadi who takes on a highly relevant topic now – the increasingly interconnected and convoluted ways we present our identities in the digital realm. Indeed the topic takes on particular poignant now, as publications worldwide resort to Zoom, FaceTime and other similar apps to create editorials – who, how, and what we present of ourselves to others now feel more blurred and amorphous than ever.

From now till May 18; check it out here.

2. 88rising puts on a new festival

If you have yet to get acquainted with 88rising, get started. The Asian-focused record label and artist collective has been on a massive roll since it got started in 2016, representing some of the most influential Asian hip-hop and rappers spanning multiple geographies and pulling in some three billion views on YouTube in 2019 alone. Now, they’re putting on Asia Rising Forever, a new three-hour-long festival featuring a multitude of Asian acts such as Korean indie-rock darlings Hyukoh, Japanese R&B star Joji, viral Indonesian rapper Rich Brian and more.

Catch the livestream here on May 7 at 9am.

The Projector‘s film quiz series has always been popular and tends to sell out, but now, you can opt in from the comfort of your bed if you so wish. Get your friends together to form a team and you can even have booze delivered to you by the folk from its in-house Intermission Bar to get that dutch courage going while you’re at it. Oh, and by the way, the ticket for the quiz can be redeemed for a movie when The Projector (finally) reopens. A win-win situation, if you ask us.

The quiz takes place May 6 at 8pm. More details here
