1. Hit up a vintage sale

Vintage specialist A Vintage Tale has one of the most well-curated and authentic treasure troves in Singapore – think authentic Moschino, Missoni, Valentino and Gucci pieces from the past. They’re clearing their stock currently with a massive sale where you can snap up pieces from $100 per kg of garment – so don’t miss out on this.

July 2-July 5, 11.30pm-7.30pm; #01-01 277 Joo Chiat Rd

2. Check out this online exhibition

Gajah Gallery‘s latest online-only exhibition, The Humanity of Small Things, is one that addresses a topic a lot of artists, creatives and everyone, in general, have been facing: how do you find grounding in a period filled with uncertainties? Their answer: get a group of local and regional artists to create small-scale works in the solitude of each artist’s home or studio.

The small size of the works are meant to reflect the growing embracing of the intimate, raw and authentic as opposed to the traditionally glitzy, high-profile art shows, suggesting that what has long been overlooked – the small, daily expressions of beauty and creativity – is now finding their time in the spotlight. Our pick? This provocative gelatinous structure by the fast-rising Malaysian artist Kara Inez, who we recently profiled in our January 2020 Art and Design Edition.

Ongoing till July 12; check it out here

3. Join a discussion on the General Election

Talk of the General Election 2020 has been unavoidable in recent days and this discussion by local theatre stalwart Wild Rice takes an interesting angle to the chatter. Respected theatre-makers Tan Tarn How, Nabilah Said and Adeeb Fazah as well as Wild Rice’s resident playwright Alfian Sa’at will be discussing each contesting parties’ manifestos and in particular, how their respective policies address Singapore’s arts and culture scene. If that’s something that you’re concerned with going into the election, you’ll want to tune in.

July 2, 9pm. Catch the discussion here

4. Join a nostalgia-tinged quiz night

Retro party joint Nineteen80 is putting on its first-ever trivia night and it’s no surprise that the theme focuses on the ’80s. Get a group of friends (five max) to participate – and while you’re at it, the organisers are encouraging you to dress up in your ’80s best (points go to best-dressed folks). The winning team gets a complimentary bottle and a table when Nineteen80 finally reopens.

July 3, 8pm-10pm. Get your tickets here.

5. Get educated on issues that matter

Youth-led non-profit group SG Climate Rally has been an active participant in Singapore’s civil society. Take for instance how they took it upon themselves to stage Singapore’s first climate change rally last Sep. For this year’s General Election, they’ve launched their own scorecard on each contesting party’s environmental policies in their respective manifestos.

Recognising that climate change is a vast, intersectional issue that will affect everyone – marginalised communities in particular – they’ve tapped on activists across the civil society spectrum to speak out on various issues like LGBTQ+ rights, class inequality, migrant workers and so on. Surely you’ll encounter an issue you care about in the line-up – as the daily takeovers happen on IG Stories, you can simply head over to SG Climate Rally’s Instagram page for a peep throughout the day.

July 1-July 8. Head to SG Climate Rally‘s Instagram page for more details.
