If you’re a fan of good design, you’re probably already a fan of cult Aussie skincare label, Aesop – their idiosyncratic apothecary-esque packaging and individualistic shops (no two are alike) has seen the brand explode from its humble beginnings in Melbourne in the ’80s to the beloved global juggernaut that it is now.

To celebrate the Singapore Night Festival‘s 10th anniversary, the label is staging a scent-based installation, entitled “Nostos: Records of the Self“, at Singapore National Museum’s brand-new gallery, Gallery 10.

They’ve concocted a one-of-a-kind scent (reportedly containing bergamot, sandalwood and
frankincense essential oils, among others) for this installation. The essential oils, contained in 10 steel wells, is heated up by a cluster of light bulbs that hang over the wells, resulting in a heady rush as the scene permeates the space.

Scent is one of those things, along with music, that potentially brings specific memories when experienced – or as the brand’s creative director Marsha Meredith says, “Scent has the ability to attach
to specific moments in our minds and hence to transport us through personal recollections.”

On from now till 26 August (the duration of the Singapore Night Festival, basically), “Nostos: Records of the Self” is held at Gallery 10 at the Singapore National Museum.
