beach holidays belitung island

#1: Belitung Island

What:
Boasting pristine sandy beaches, the island is only an hour’s plane ride from Jakarta, which is one and a half hours’ away from Singapore (there are currently no direct flights there).

Where: East of Sumatra, Indonesia

Why: It’s home to unique landscapes such as Kaolin Lake, which possesses a gorgeous shade of sky blue as a result of men digging up kaolin, commonly used to make powder in cosmetics. Don’t miss checking out the meteor landforms here, too.

#2: Telunas Island

What: An island that’s just 50 kilometres south of Singapore and easily accessible by ferry.

Where: Within the Karimun region of the Riau Islands, Indonesia

Why: If you’re looking for a quiet retreat, this is the place. There are two accommodation options to choose from: A villa at Telunas Private Island offering a dose of rustic charm, or a more simply furnished chalet at the family-friendly Telunas Beach Resort.

#3: Nikoi Island

What: A 15-hectare resort island that’s two and a half hours away from Singapore.

Where: 8 kilometres off the east coast of Bintan, Indonesia

Why: There are only 15 beach houses in the resort, so expect serious exclusivity. Nature lovers will enjoy learning more about the resort’s sustainable approach and how they’re championing sea turtle conservation efforts. The best time to travel here: Between mid-Dec to mid-Feb when temperatures are cooler.

#4: Pangkil Island

What:
A private island which is two hours and 40 minutes out of Bintan, a 45-minute ride from Singapore.

Where: The South Eastern corner of Bintan Island, Indonesia

Why: Dubbed “driftwood palaces”, lodgings here are completely made out of logs salvaged from the sea and nearby islands, and are located close to the beach. There’s even a tree house with a king-sized four poster bed which offers a great view of the sea.

#5: Bawah Island

Where: Within the Anambas archipelago in Indonesia
