Feast In Style (And Like A Baller) With These Father's Day Takeout Options

From massive bone-in steaks to succulent, juicy lobsters, these home deliveries and takeaways are sure to sate any appetite. And yes, beer’s involved.

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and while dining in at restaurants has gotten the green light thanks to Phase 2 of reopening, booking a table might be a little of a last-minute challenge for this weekend’s festivities. Well at least we are being fair to mum; she had to spend Mother’s Day getting delivery or takeaway as well.

Be that as it may, restaurants are continuing to put out great grub that’s well-suited to the tastes of dad: whether that means meat, and a lot of it, or hearty seafood options like lobsters, crabs and more. Not forgetting a bit of liquid encouragement, especially since we’ll be stuck indoors for a couple of weeks yet – so why not arrive with a six-pack or two, and bring along some heart-warming feasts from the restaurants we’re featuring below.

Restaurant bar Lumo headed by chef Martin Wong serves up unfussy contemporary European fare best described as elevated bar bites. Their three-day dry-aged chicken drummettes are delightfully crispy despite being well drenched in a spicy glaze, and are worth every calorie. We’re also fond of their take on steak frites. They use ribeye, which is a cut above your usual flank or striploin commonly found in the bar snack, with a smoky char from their restaurant’s wood fire grill that really kicks it up a notch. For non-beef eaters, opt for the Sakura bone-in pork chop. If you’re wondering, yes, it’s perfectly okay for it to be pink – especially when it’s been beautifully cooked sous-vide before that final sear on the grill. Pan Pacific Singapore’s Father’s Day menu features indulgences that are made for sharing. Their Fruits De Mer platter features an array of oceanic treats, including Boston lobster, Hoso prawns, razor clams, snow crab and Alaskan king crab legs. Otherwise, those partial to something meatier can always opt for a massive bone-in prime ribeye meant for six – the hulking roast comes with additional sides like butternut squash, creamed potatoes and quinoa as well as a shallot jus, but all eyes will remain on the roast – and rightly so. Who says fathers don’t like to wake up to breakfast in bed – especially when there’s some cognac involved? Artisanal bistro So France’s Father’s Day breakfast pack features an assortment of French pastries and accompaniments – perfect for the early risers. The ingredients chosen don’t just work well for each style – they’re tailored to be nourishing for the body, especially relevant in today’s times. First off, that isn’t just a massive pat of butter – it’s encasing a gorgeous Kumamoto black Wagyu ribeye, and has been for three months. The folks over at Vue, headed by chef Sam Chin, have gotten into the butter-ageing-steak game. Purported to impart the beef with the nutty flavour of the fat while insulating the cut from some of the harsher effects of dry ageing, including developing an inedible bark that has to be discarded, these beautiful steaks are naturally in short supply: they’re limited to 20 portions a day, and you can get it uncooked if you’d like to take charge of the cook yourself. We wouldn’t recommend that though – the steak will be grilled on binchotan, lending it char and smoky flavour that’s hard to replicate at home. Father’s Day wouldn’t be complete without at least some drink, which is why you can top it off with a bottle of 15-year-old Glenfiddich for $140. Progressive Australian restaurant Stellar – that happens to rear its own herd of Tajima cattle, if you needed any assurance that they take their food seriously – run by chef Christopher Millar brings a trio of Father’s Day feasts to the table. Whether your father’s culinary leanings are toward carnivorous, pescatarian or omnivorous menus, Stellar has a little something for everyone. All said, the menus aren’t actually comprised purely of meat or seafood: the actual difference is the choice of main. Opt for poached Petuna trout accompanied by celeriac done two ways and a citrusy, tangy salsa, or wagyu brisket that’s been slow-cooked for 100 hours, with sauce and accompaniments made using the marrow and bones of the animal. The omnivorous menu simply means that you’ll be getting both. Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel’s deli-style outlet is about more than good coffee. In normal times, you can head down for a spot of delicate pastries, premium charcuterie boards, and more – though for Father’s Day, why not show dad some appreciation with their Whiskey Chocolate Cake. It’s modelled after typical office wear – though it might not be the best to remind him of what’s coming up after work-from-home is over – intricately recreated in fondant icing that encases decadent layers of luscious whiskey-infused chocolate genoise sponge interspersed with saccharine Italian buttercream.
