5 Fashionable Films To Watch In 2017

From one of the world's biggest style icons to some of fashion's most recognisable faces, these are the most stylish films you shouldn't miss catching on the big screen.

#1: Jackie

Starring Natalie Portman in the titular role, the film is a biographical drama about one of America’s most famous first ladies, Jacqueline Kennedy, and documents what happens after her husband is assassinated in 1963. An undoubted style icon, she inspired the term ‘the Jackie look’ consisting of items like clean-cut skirts and sleeveless A-line dresses. Her signature accessory? The pillbox hat. Out in Singapore on Feb 16

#2: Personal Shopper

Starring Kristen Stewart, French film director Olivier Assayas’ flick is a thriller ghost story that centers on Maureen (Stewart), a young American working in the Parisian fashion scene as a personal shopper and assistant to a celebrity client – all the while attempting to communicate with her dead twin brother.

While the film was initially booed at its screening at the Cannes Film Festival, it has since gone on to garner praise from critics, with Stewart’s performance especially lauded. Out in Singapore on March 23

#3: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Directed by acclaimed French director Luc Besson, this French science fiction action film stars Amerian actor Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Brit beauty Cara Delevingne as Laureline. The duo act as special operatives for the government who are sent on a mission to save the human race.

DeHaan has a long-standing relationship with Prada, most recently fronting the fashion house’s Resort ’17 campaign, while Delevingne continues her transition from one of fashion’s most beloved models to an actress in her own right, after starring in films such as Paper Towns and Suicide Squad. Out in Singapore on July 20

#4: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Following the success of the 2014 film Kingsman: The Secret Service, the sequel reunites Welsh actor Taron Egerton and British actor Colin Firth with English director Matthew Vaughn for another run at the British-American spy action comedy genre.

The original film was highly praised for its action sequences and also its impeccable detail to menswear, with one of the most memorable scenes involving Eggsy (Egerton) undergoing a complete makeover from a stereotypical ‘chav’ – white high-cut sneakers and baseball cap, and that memorable Jeremy Scott x Adidas jacket – into a well-groomed British gentleman. If the sequel is to follow the former, we can definitely expect more action, more suave looks and definitely a whole lot more fun. Out in Singapore on Oct 5

  1. #5: Murder On The Orient Express

Based on the 1934 Agatha Christie novel of the same name, Irishman Kenneth Branagh is set to direct, write and star in this mystery film that revolves around a Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, who tries to solve the case of a murder on board the famous Orient Express train.

If the 1974 film adaptation of the novel is anything to go by, we can expect a refreshing update to some glamorous 1930s looks worn by an all-star cast that so far includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz.

Branagh, who most recently directed the live action adaptation of Cinderella in 2015, also has a penchant for flair and style in his directing – so we’re looking forward to some stunning sets and costumes from this movie. Out in Singapore on Nov 22
