Two Limited Edition Commemorative Martell VSOPs Are Launched As Cognac Brand Turns 300

Fashion designer Jason Wu crafts a bottle inspired by the dinner jacket, while conceptual artist Bernar Venet creates a minimalist decanter for Martell’s 300th anniversary.

Fashion designer Jason Wu used his visit to the House of Martell in Cognac, France as the inspiration for his bottle design. “When I arrived at the Maison Martell, I was impressed by the architecture and the magnificent history which radiates from it. Every little detail, from the furniture to the cellar where the cognacs are maturing, is a source of inspiration”, he says.

The result is a bottle that’s masculine, elegant and sophisticated, perfectly reflecting the heritage of a 300-year-old legend.

Wu crafted the bottle and presentation box with the greatest attention to detail, its appearance is inspired by the dinner jacket.

Charles Armand de Belenet, International Marketing Director for Martell commented, “Jason Wu is the perfect match to convey the elegance platform that Martell VSOP has been developing for several years; it is a powerful property that resonates with our audiences”.

And guess what, we also got you the special Wu Recipe:

Method: Quickly muddle brandied cherries in the bottom of a tumbler, then add Martell VSOP, simple syrup and ginger ale with ice, stir, and serve. Garnish with a slice of fresh ginger, and an orange zest. While wearing Wu, of course.

This isn’t just a stunning new commemorative bottle, the Premier Voyage is also a limited edition new blend to celebrate the brand’s tricentenary.

The house’s cellar master Benoit Fil returned to Martell’s roots to create Martell Premier Voyage, a unique blend containing 18 eaux-de-vie from Martell’s cellars. Fil sampled eaux-de-vie (fruit brandy) and met with the winegrowing families whose ancestors had originally supplied the brand’s founder. After crafting the blend, it was then aged in barrels made from the oak of a 300-year-old tree.

Then French conceptual artist Bernar Venet – known for his distinctive, minimalist style – was invited to create a stunning artwork in which to house the precious cognac. Venet’s timeless design comprises metal arcs divided into three clusters, evoking the 300 year anniversary, which shelter a simple and elegant teardrop-shaped Sèvres crystal decanter. The result is itself a blend of modern and traditional sculptural forms.

Only 300 bottles (naturally) of this distinct blend are available at 10,000 euros (S$15,700) each. Order at premiervoyage.martell.com
