5 Cool Events To Check Out This Week: July 3 - 7

This week, don’t miss out of ambient musician Kin Leonn’s debut album gig at the Esplanade while a disturbing new art exhibition opens at Parkview Square. Here, our recommendations:

Kin Leonn – Commune Album Launch with Special Guest Yeule
In our June issue, we highlighted Kin Leonn as ambient music’s reigning boy wonder and now he’s temporarily back in town for a one-night-only gig at the Esplanade where he’ll be playing tracks from Commune, his well-received debut album. Not only that, he’ll also be showcasing new materials that reflect his creative growth since relocating to London. His opening act, the up-and-coming electronic songstress Yeule, is one to keep an eye on as well. More details here. July 5, 7.30pm Esplanade Recital Studio Tales From The Mainland: Ren Hang - I've Got A Little Problem
The late Chinese artist and photographer Ren Hang created unconventional images that usually depicted Chinese youths in various states of nudity. He believed that there wasn’t anything intrinsically wrong with nudity but for that, he’s been censured and persecuted by his government. Director Zhang Yiming’s documentary on the artist follows him around to see how he creates his images as well as his long-standing struggles with depression, which he eventually succumbed to. It’s a one-night-only screening, so don’t miss out. Details here. July 5, 8.30pm The Projector, #05-00 Golden Mile Tower Disturbing Narratives
Parkview Museum‘s (you know, that Gotham-looking building in Bugis) newest exhibition is quite an impressive one. Featuring more than 30 international artists who work across a vast spectrum of artistic mediums, the exhibition explores how emotions such as fear and uncertainty play a role in people’s daily lives. From the looks of things, Disturbing Narratives will go down as one of the most thought-provoking – and creepy – exhibitions of the year. More details here. On now till Feb 20, 12pm – 7pm Parkview Museum, Level 3, 600 North Bridge Road San Fermín Alley Party
Esquina is bringing Spain’s famous (or infamous, depending on your stance) “Running of the Bulls” festival to our shores with its San Fermin Alley Party, which will seek Jiak Chuan street transformed into a Spanish back-alley for one day. Making things even more exciting: Aitor Orive of Basque Kitchen by Aitor and Botanico at The Garage’s Sujatha Asokan will be the day’s guest chefs and there’ll be live music to set the mood as well. Come dressed in a white tee and get ready for a good time. Details here. July 7, 3pm – 10pm Esquina, 16 Jiak Chuan Road Celestial Bodies
New York-based DJ LSDXOXO has been a rising name across the States and Europe, especially in the underground party scenes, and now he’s in town for the first time. He’ll be spinning his signature mix of hip-hop, trance, techno and electronica at the Intermission Bar this Saturday in a gig organised by local electronic music collective Interstellar, alongside SG stalwart Chris Ho and Interstellar’s own resident DJ Atika Altar. Details here. July 6, 10pm – 3am Intermission Bar, #05-00 Golden Mile Tower
