5 Cool Events To Check Out This Week: Aug 7 - 11

Our weekly recommendations of cool events in Singapore, from people to see and places to hit up:

I Am Citizen By The Local People X Singapore Land Authority
If you’re already rolling your eyes at the thought of battling the massive crowds streaming from NDP, head over to Tanjong Pagar for an unusual night out. Organised by The Local People, they’ve enlisted local artists, creatives and musicians for a one-night-only art market held at a rather unusual location – St.Andrew’s Mission Hospital. You’ll also be able to catch the mandatory fireworks via a screening on the rooftop. More details here. August 9, 5pm – 11pm 5 Kadayanallur Street at second sight
As you might have guessed, at second sight touches on the process that follows the initial impression – “looking and re-looking to find and enact possibilities”. The show features new artworks by local artists Leonard Wee and Khairullah Rahim – the latter specialises in creating beautiful works out of everyday objects and was previously featured in our January issue. Above, an artwork from the ongoing show. More details here. On till August 9 5pm – 8pm Tanjong Paradisco
Tanjong Beach Club turns 10 this weekend and they’re putting on a two day extravaganza to celebrate – day one sees bottomless brunch for those who love their booze, beachside yoga sessions and silkscreen printing workshops – dogs are welcomed. Day two boasts of a stellar line-up of international electronic acts such as Bondax and the Grammy award winning DJ RAC (pictured above) taking to the decks – get your tickets already. August 10 – 11, 9am – 2am Tanjong Beach Club, 120 Beach Walk Raffles, Pineapples And The Swamp
In-demand local art collective Ripple Root is everywhere lately it seems – in the CBD, Keong Saik Road, Straits Clan and even club-of-the-moment Marquee. Their latest exhibition and first local painting show, Raffles, Pineapples and The Swamp, will take place at Yang Gallery and is supported by Club 21 – the pieces were inspired by both the Singapore bicentennial as well as the Batik patterns of Issey Miyake and Dries Van Noten’s AW ’19 collections. A night of art, 3D objects and great fashion? Sign us up. August 8, 6.30pm – 9.30pm Yang Gallery,  #01-11 The Shopping Gallery Hilton Ice Cream Sundays x Darker Than Wax: Open Door [National Day]
One of the best spots in town to catch an unencumbered view of the fireworks is the rooftop at Golden Mile Tower. Fresh off their recent party over at Haw Par Villa, prolific organiser Ice Scream Sundays is teaming up with electronic music collective Darker Than Wax for a third installation of their Open Door party series. You know you’re guaranteed a good experience when either party is involved and this time, you can expect to be able to take part in creating a live mural painting, affordable booze and as always, soulful grooves by the Darker Than Wax crew. Our advice? Stay on for the awesome fireworks view later on in the night.  More details here. August 9, 2.30pm – 10.30pm  Golden Mile Tower, 5th level carpark
