Netflix's December 2019 Roster Has Henry Cavill, Adam Driver And Scarlett Johansson - Yum

Round off the year with a seriously good-looking cast across Netflix's December 2019 offerings: Henry Cavill, Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.

Marriage Story

What it’s about: A highly personal and deeply affecting account of how a marriage – and subsequent divorce – can change the people who occupy it, a swell as the collateral damage inflicted upon those around them.

Who’s in it: Star Wars bad boy Adam Driver (he plays Kylo Ren), who’s been having a fantastic couple of years (he was in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman and Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die), as well as Scarlett Johansson play the couple in question, with a fantastic support cast including Big Little Lies‘ Laura Dern.

Why watch it: For those who like to check film ratings before you commit to it – Marriage Story has been receiving rave reviews across the board, including a 97% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have been hailing the film as career highs for both Driver and Johansson, as well as its director, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach.

Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer

What it’s about: A documentary based on real-life sadist and murderer Luka Magnotta, who first gained Internet notoriety when he posted videos of himself murdering kittens (worse) – before a bunch of online sleuths launch a campaign to flush him out.

Why watch it: To be honest, Magnotta’s actions were really vile, but the documentary chronicles the real-life cat and mouse chase for the murderer which eventually results in success when Magnotta was found in an Internet cafe in Berlin – looking at photos of himself on Interpol.

When it’s available: Dec 18

The Witcher

What it’s about: A new series based on the best-selling Polish fantasy novels that centred around “witcher” Geralt of Rivia – beast hunters endowed with supernatural powers to battle monsters.

Who’s in it: Henry Cavill of Superman fame plays the titular character. And that is reason alone to tune in.

Why watch it: The Witcher has been touted as Netflix’s answer to the long shadow casted by Game of Thrones and so far, reactions from fans have been positive. And apparently, Netflix head honchoes are so confident in this series that they’ve already gave the go-ahead for a second season to be produced.

When it’s out: Dec 20
