Before the advent of Netflix and other streaming services, local productions on the telly probably occupied a key chunk of your childhood. You’ll now get to relive those memories via Netflix’s new mini-platform, titled Singapore, Now Streaming, where 106 local TV shows and films will be progressively made available, starting from August 1. The project was made possible through partnerships with local studios Clover Films, Mediacorp, MM2 Entertainment and Memento Films.
These include familiar TV series such as Growing Up, Under One Roof, The Golden Pillow, Return of the Condor Heroes, The Noose, The Unbeatables and more. Film buffs can look forward to 12 Storeys, Mee Pok Man, Ilo Ilo, Shirkers, A Yellow Bird, A Land Imagined, 881 and Singapore Dreaming among others.
“I’m always heartened by opportunities to introduce my work to new audiences. It’s been seven years after the first release of llo Ilo and I hope the film will continue to touch the hearts of audiences in Singapore and across the region, especially if they are seeing it for the first time,” said Anthony Chen, director of Ilo Ilo.
Will these classics (OK, some are much more contemporary) be as good as we remember them to be? Only one way to find out – simply enter “SG Now Streaming” into Netflix’s search bar to access the full list.
