5 Cool Events To Check Out This Week: September 5 - 9

Entity of Spatial Existence
One of the highlights of the Singapore International Photography Festival, this exhibition brings together a group of six international artists hailing from Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, United Kingdom and South Africa. Their aim? To present different takes on how space can be interpreted, be it through real or imagined landscapes. More details here. September 8 – October 28, various times Gillman Barracks, Blk 47 #01-26 Places + Faces Singapore
Imran Ciesay and Solomon Boyede — AKA Ciesay and Soulz — the two kids behind fashion and photography brand Places + Faces that’s best known for their highly intimate shots of contemporary street culture, will be putting on one of their legendary parties at Kilo Lounge this Thursday. Going by their past parties, all the coolest names in town will likely be in attendance, so don’t miss out. More details here. September 6, 10pm – 3am Kilo Lounge, 21 Tanjong Pagar Road Between Love and Death: Diary of Nobuyoshi Araki
Nobuyoshi Araki hardly needs an introduction but if you’re unfamiliar with his work, he’s considered to be one of Japan’s foremost names in photography, which often features women in sexually provocative poses. Regardless where you stand on his work, the focus of this exhibition, part of the Singapore International Photography Festival, zooms in the relationship between Araki and his wife, Yoko over several decades. If you like intimate, confessional photographic styles, this is the exhibition to catch. More details here. September 6 – December 9, DECK, 120A Prinsep Street The Great Escape presents Kampong Boogie
In case you haven’t heard, The Great Escape, AKA the carpark bar located behind The Projector, is closing down at the end of September. While it’s only been around for a few short years, the bar quickly became a reliable place to throw underground parties — or even just a casual place for cheap drinks with a great view. Head down to soak up more of their parties while it lasts. More details here. September 7, 9pm – 3am The Great Escape, #05-00 Golden Mile Tower BITES & VIBES
Another week, another block party — this time it’s the inaugural Bites & Vibes festival which will combine loads of finger food, accompanied by live gigs from musicians such as singer-songwriter Sam Rui, and rising shoegaze band Sobs. There’ll also be wellness classes teaching everything from yoga to barre, on-site, but best of all, the festival claims to be plastic-free — a great score for the environmental sustainability scene in Singapore right now. More details here. September 9, 12pm – 10pm Amoy Street
