There's A New Film Festival Dedicated To Food In Singapore

Founded by the creators of A Design Film Festival, FoodCine.ma will explore the relationship between design, creativity, and the culinary world.

Trust the creators of a Design Film Festival to start something that will get both film buffs and foodies excited: A new film festival, FoodCine.ma, debuts this April and aims to look at design through the lens of food.

While there’s still a few months to go until we can snag tickets, the organisers are kicking things off with a festival premiere on March 5-13 featuring the highly acclaimed documentary Noma: My Perfect Storm.

Showing in Southeast Asia for the first time, the film follows chef René Redzepi, who’s behind two-Michelin-starred restaurant Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, as he attempts to win back the title of “world’s best restaurant” after losing it in 2013. It’s a must-see for foodies, but also anyone interested in the creative process. Festival Director Felix Ng points out the similarities between how chefs and designers work, through “the spirit of using different ingredients (materials and mediums) and arranging them in a new way.”

Alongside the film screenings, there’ll be a series of presentations on the relationship between food and design, and two special exhibitions on food culture. Watch this space for more information on the festival in March. Buy tickets ($15) to the Noma film screenings here.
