This week, get educated on women’s issues via film and check out the opening of Singapore’s first ever micro-distillery.

Finnish Film Festival
The Finnish Film Festival is back for its sophomore edition with all things Scandinavian and it’s expanded its repertoire this time, with up to 14 feature films on show. Our picks? Tom Of Finland (pictured above), which focuses on the late Finnish artist Touko Laaksonen, who broke boundaries with his highly explicit illustrations back in the ’50s and ’60s and continues to be a LGBT icon till today. Other highlights include a small retrospective on the famed Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki, arguably the country’s most renowned filmmaker and known for a highly minimalistic style. If you’re not familiar with Capsule Collection by Juliette, here’s a quick brief: it’s a range started by a French designer based in Singapore and they’re known for easy, effortless pieces such as their bestselling jumpsuits. For Juliette’s upcoming F/W’18 collection (expect pretty lace dresses filled with delicate floral prints and more), the designer is throwing on a special ticketed fashion show — proceeds will go to Aidha, a local charity that helps foreign domestic workers and low-income Singaporean women achieve economic independence through financial education. Who says you can’t do good while shopping? Get your tickets here. October 10, 7.30pm Bordier & Cie, 138 Market Street, #14-00 CapitaGreen SAD: This Girl's in Love with You
The Singapore Girl aka SIA air stewardesses, clad in their distinctive Pierre Balmain-designed kebaya, have been an icon since 1972. The Substation’s throwing a party to honour her in their own manner, enlisting comedienne Preetipls for hosting duties while drag queens like Becca D’Bus will be putting on a show with her version of a #BalmainArmy. It’ll all be going down at The Substation’s cool new space called Sad – an underrated and literally underground bar at the alleyway besides the arts centre, so don’t miss out on what is sure to be a riotous night. If you love your booze, you can’t miss out on Brass Lion Distillery, which is branding itself as Singapore’s first ever micro-distillery. Be sure to try Brass Lion’s debut concoction: a Singapore Dry Gin that uses 22 plants that are reflective of Singapore’s port city and spice route heritage. More details here.
