5 Cool Events To Check Out This Week: Oct 31 - Nov 4

This week, it’s time to get woke with a slew of eco-friendly events and of course, Halloween parties.

The Conscious Festival
For those curious to start getting their act together, the Conscious Festival by eco juggernaut Green is the New Black is a great place to start. One of the biggest eco-focused festivals in Singapore, it’ll feature a massive marketplace with over 70 vendors who’ll be hawking trendy straw bags, jewellery, groceries, skincare products and more — all made with care for the environment, presumably. Of course, for those who intend to take a more serious step beyond shopping more consciously, there’s also a series of ticketed talks by a diverse group of specialists — they’ll be discussing important topics such as sustainability at the workplace, going zero waste and being eco-friendly even when travelling. More details here. November 3 – 4, 11am – 7pm Park Royal Hotel on Pickering, 3 Upper Pickering Street Kafka's Room: MetamorphosisVR
Part of the upcoming Singapore Writers Festival, you can now immerse yourself in the late author’s typically nightmarish, Kafkaesque landscapes via a virtual reality space called metamorphosisVR, held at the Arts House. Visitors can only enter the VR installation individually — so do be prepared for an unsettling experience. More details here. November 2 – 11, various times The Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane Come Together Holland V — Car Park Party
Hosted by regular party organisers The Local People, this looks to be the first time an outdoor cinema is held at the outdoor carpark behind Holland Village. The movie? Crowd-pleaser Jurassic World: Fall Kingdom. There’ll also be an art market, print making workshops and old-school snacks available — just remember to bring a mat along. More details here. November 2, 5pm – 11pm (movie screening at 7.30pm) Holland Village Books & Beer x habitat by honestbee
Regular book swop event Books and Beer returns for its latest edition, held at the much buzzed about Habitat by Honest Bee, which brands itself as the “world’s first tech-enabled, multi-sensory grocery and dining experience.” If you’re unfamiliar with the event, visitors are encouraged to bring an assortment of their own books to swop with others’ (up to a total of 10). It’s a great way to move books that you’ll probably never read and attain new (technically second-hand, but who’s counting?) ones for free — making it a really eco-friendly event as well, even if Books and Beer doesn’t brand itself as such. More details here. November 3, 3pm – 6pm Habitat by Honest Bee, 34 Boon Leat Terrace Stranger Drinks & Attagirl DJs Takeover
Big fan of Stranger Things but not the crowds at Universal Studios? You’ll want to hit up nightlife stalwart Alley Bar’s Stranger Things themed night this Wednesday that features the ladies over at all-female DJ collective Attagirls, who’ll be playing “a fun mash-up of bass house, jersey club, dancehall, uk garage with a tinge of synth”. With shots going at 6 for $30 (during happy hour), we’re down for it. More details here. October 31, 5pm – 2am Alley Bar, 180 Orchard Road
