April 24 was a big day for homegrown indie-electronic duo .gif as it marked the release date of their highly-anticipated sophomore album Hail Nothing. In an ideal world, there would have been a launch party, but then, Covid-19 happened. So Female did the next best thing to fete this new album launch by one of the best local acts here: throw an intimate listening party on April 24 during our Female Homies session on Instagram Live, starring the group’s frontwoman Weish. She entertained us with her raw lush vocals on the piano with two songs off the new album, stripped away from the heavy synth and beats that have defined .gif’s sound. The first was Only Yours, a number about longing that was originally performed with musician/poet Bani Haykal. It was then followed by the grittier And While Alive. Like any sporting musician, Weish treated the crowd with an encore performance – an impromptu rendition of their hit song Diatribe from the the duo’s 2013 EP Saudade.

Catch the next episode of Female Homies on April 30, as we go inside the wardrobe of Singapore’s faceless style star Wendy Long.
