With the January 2017 issue of Female celebrating art and design, the fashion team turned to one of the artsiest lensmans in the business here for its fashion editorial.

Emerging photographer Gary Chew, who worked with old school media such as Polaroids and film, is known for casting a painterly and romantic eye on his images. Just some months before, we collaborated with the Ipoh native for our September 2016 issue to capture Fall/Winter 2016’s aristocratic-tinged wardrobe.

This time round, we tasked Chew with reimagining the works of some of the most famous painters in the art world with a wardrobe featuring the key looks from Spring/Summer ’17. The result: A surrealist-meets-dreamy outing we’ve billed “The Portrait Series”. We break down what went down during the shoot in numbers here:

7

The number of legendary artists whose works we interpreted for the spread. Among them were Gustav Klimt and Rembrandt.

1503

The year of the oldest artwork – the Mona Lisa – we referenced in the spread. The Renaissance masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci was recreated using Prada.

3

The model count for this spread.

1

The number of hours it took to apply gold foil on the girl modelling Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I”.

12

The number of variety of flowers involved in the entire spread, including calla lilies and orchids.
