So pervasive is a brand like Gucci in pop culture that there are reportedly 22,705 songs that mention it in their lyrics. In fact, a smattering of which was remixed to form the runway soundtrack of its Aria presentation created for its centennial this year. (Produced by American musician and visual artist Lawrence Rothman, the thumping 10-song set is up on Spotify and includes Die Antwoord’s trance-y Gucci Coochie and Lil Pump’s earworm Gucci Gang, but of course.)
But thats not all creative director Alessandro Michele has done. To truly shout out Gucci’s far-reaching influence on music, he’s created a leisure-inflected capsule collection for men and women that hits stores on October 14.
Besides dripping in vintage motifs like wallpaper prints and classical insignias, the pieces – which span football-style tees to camera-style bags and clutches – are also stamped with the words “Gucci 100” as well as said verses. (One of our faves? This line from American punk band The Cramps’ 1983 song You Got Good Taste: “This one’s dedicated to all you Gucci bag Gucci carriers out there / It’s called you got good taste”.
With that same cheeky spirit, FEMALE has assembled some of Singapore’s most recognised contemporary musicians to play dress-up in the collection. Everybody, put your hands together for our very own “Gucci 100 Gang” starring Shye, Iman Fandi, Yung Raja, Charlie Lim and Huda.
