How would you describe Timeframe?

“It has elements of pop, R&B, and a little bit of dance hall… Some might find it fast-paced because of the production, but I actually find it a little laid back – something that I can drive to. I’m happy that I was able to incorporate my personal favourite music genres and sounds into one song.”

Did you write it?

“I personally did in 2019 – before getting signed by Universal Music Singapore last year. It came about when I realised that I’ve had a lot of people – friends, crushes, et cetera – come in and out of my life due to literal distance or travel. I had met one such friend who was going away and the next day – while taking a taxi – a melody popped into my head.

I still remember humming the tune into my phone, recording it using Voice Memo, and writing the lyrics in Notes. Right there and then, I knew that it was something that I would want to release. It’s since gone through many production arrangements and I changed the lyrics up too – before deciding to go back to the original words that I had written.”

What about the track makes it debut-worthy?

“It shows a more personal side to me and I think that it has everything that would make listeners curious about what’s next. Music is something that I have always been interested in and now is the time that I want to venture into it. I have more songs in the works and all I can say is: There is more to come and I’m very excited to put them out.”

You listen to a wide range of artistes. Who influenced you most on the songs that you’ve already worked on?

“Dua Lipa, Zayn Malik, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Russ, Zara Larsson, (the Norwegian synth pop musician) Astrid S, Destiny Rogers, Ali Gatie and Tate McRae – these are some of the names whom I look up to and always get inspired by.”

How have your muscial ambitions grown?

“Since being exposed to more artists and ideas, and being able to work with other people (as opposed to doing so solo before she had signed with a record label), I think I’ve learnt to write better as well as experiment with different sounds. It has made me more curious – and wanting to create more too.”
